The ESAT is an online self-assessment tool designed to facilitate individuals or organisations utilising community development as a way of addressing health inequalities to:

  • assess and reflect critically on their work and practice
  • understand the effects of their community development work in addressing health inequalities and then mitigating the impact of social circumstances on people’s lives, health and wellbeing
  • identify areas of strength and plan to maintain this practice
  • identify areas for change and plan to make improvements

The ESAT has been designed to complement the Community Development National Occupational Standards (CDNOS) by focusing on the six key areas and the CDNOS Values, with a specific emphasis on health inequalities. It is a core element of the Elevate Capacity Building Programme and not only will it provide us with vital insights into the work and practice of a range of interested individuals and organisations, it will allow us to aggregate information across Northern Ireland, identify trends and key capacity building issues for our sector. We will also use the ESAT to influence other parts of Elevate such as the Mentoring and Training Programmes.

We hope you find this tool useful.
