The Elevate programme offered the perfect platform to support this mission by providing the resources and mentorship needed to make a significant impact on their health and well-being.
Our project aimed to bring women to a healing residential retreat where they could relax, learn, and rejuvenate. The retreat focused on mentoring them in initiating health and well-being practices that they could sustain independently in the future. Through a series of information sessions, physical activities, and mindful practices, we created a space for these women to experience freedom and empowerment.
The impact of our Elevate project was profound, providing a transformative experience for the participants and benefiting the broader community:
• Healing and Well-being
The retreat allowed the women to practice the "Take 5 Steps to Well-being," engage in trauma and mental health awareness sessions, and learn how to become good citizens. Physical activities like walks, mindful walking, and meditation helped them experience freedom and relaxation. This holistic approach to healing helped them realize that their situation is temporary and that there is much to look forward to.
• Mental Liberation
By taking the women out of their confined spaces and into a free, nurturing environment, we helped them break free from the mentality of confinement. This newfound mental liberation empowered them to see beyond their current circumstances and envision a brighter future.
• Increased Awareness and Confidence
The sessions on health and well-being equipped the women with knowledge and practices they could continue independently. This increased their confidence in managing their health and well-being, contributing to their overall empowerment.
The Elevate mentoring programme was instrumental in enhancing our project’s impact:
• Community Development Skills
The mentoring provided us with valuable guidance and feedback, increasing our confidence in community development. We refined our project goals and strategies, ensuring a more effective implementation.
• Stronger Connections
Through the mentoring programme, we built stronger connections with other community organizations. These new relationships enabled us to share resources, collaborate on initiatives, and amplify our collective impact.
Attending the Elevate Training on Health Inequalities and Community Development was transformative:
• Access to Services
We learned how to access health and well-being services in Northern Ireland and how to seek help and interpretation services. This knowledge empowered us to better support our community members and ensure they receive the help they need.
• Empowering Others
The training equipped us with the tools to educate our community on accessing services, helping them become more self-reliant and informed about their health and well-being.
Having participated in the Elevate Programme, our future plans include; We aim to organise more healing retreats, reaching a larger number of women and providing them with the tools for sustained well-being and empowerment. We will explore funding opportunities to ensure the sustainability and growth of our initiatives, allowing us to reach and empower more women in our community.
