Connecting Minds

Connecting Minds was founded with a vision to promote inclusivity, diversity, and education within our community. We are dedicated to empowering individuals, especially those facing barriers to education and personal development.

Mentor: Supporting Communities

Impact

Our mission is to foster a harmonious and inclusive society through skill-building initiatives, benefiting underserved youth, the elderly, people with disabilities, refugees, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Elevate presented an opportunity to amplify our impact, providing the resources and support necessary to further our mission and extend our reach.

Our project aimed to facilitate the transition of Year 7 primary school students to secondary school while empowering Year 8 students with essential social, emotional, and cultural understanding skills. We focused on inclusivity, particularly for students from BAME and LGBTQIA backgrounds. The project unfolded in three phases:

• Phase 1: Peer Support Training (Secondary Schools Workshop)
Year 8 students participated in an intensive Peer Support training workshop, equipping them with the skills to mentor their younger peers.
• Phase 2: Mindfulness Workshops (Primary Schools Workshop)
Year 7 primary school students engaged in Mindfulness workshops, helping them manage the transition to secondary school.
• Phase 3: One World Day (Cultural Workshops)

We organised a "One World Day" featuring workshops showcasing global cultures, facilitated by ArtsEkta, to celebrate diversity and foster cultural appreciation.
Our project had a profound impact on both the immediate participants and the broader community in the ABC council area; By integrating BAME students and promoting cultural understanding, we significantly boosted cultural awareness. The community became more open-minded, accepting, and appreciative of its diverse cultural landscape. We fostered positive interactions and relationships among individuals from various cultural backgrounds, leading to greater solidarity, understanding, and cooperation. This contributed to a more cohesive and inclusive community. Our activities provided platforms for meaningful dialogue and interaction, strengthening community bonds and fostering a sense of belonging. This encouraged active participation in initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion. The project's impact extended beyond the immediate participants, positively influencing the broader community's social dynamics, cultural attitudes, and collective well-being.

The mentoring programme facilitated networking and collaboration with other community organisations. We forged new connections, established partnerships, and expanded our network of contacts and supporters.

The success of our Elevate project highlighted the value of innovative and inclusive approaches, such as mindfulness-based techniques and peer support mechanisms, in promoting mental health and well-being. We have received positive feedback from the schools we collaborated with, indicating a growing demand for our initiatives. We plan to enhance and expand our workshops in response to these requests, ensuring sustainability and reinforcing our commitment to fostering inclusion, understanding, and support among Northern Irish and BAME school students. Securing adequate funding will be crucial to supporting these endeavours, and we are committed to developing sustainable financial strategies to maintain the momentum of our efforts.
Through the support of the Elevate programme, Connecting Minds has made a meaningful difference in our community, and we are excited to build on this foundation to create an even greater impact in the future.
