In the vibrant community of Armagh, young people aged 10-18 are finding their voices, developing leadership skills, and bridging community divides through the efforts of the REACT Youth Group.
One of the key outcomes of this project was the successful establishment of a youth steering committee within REACT. This committee has empowered young people to assess the needs of their community, identify potential solutions, and access necessary resources. Each committee member was assigned a specific role and received training and support on the functioning and responsibilities of a committee. T
Through this project, the young people in REACT had the opportunity to meet and engage with their peers from the Spring Youth Group. By participating in shared activities and discussions, the youth from both groups explored common issues affecting them and the wider community. These dialogues encouraged mutual understanding and laid the groundwork for future collaborative efforts.
The group took part in Spooky Trail, an event organized by the Ogras Community Centre. This event not only provided a fun and engaging experience for the young participants but also strengthened the bonds between the two youth groups. It showcased the potential of joint community activities in creating a more cohesive and inclusive environment for young people.
The project also focused on mental health and well-being, recognizing the critical importance of these issues for young people. By providing a platform for open discussion and peer support, the REACT Youth Group helped its members feel more connected and less isolated. The activities and interactions facilitated through this project offered a sense of belonging and community, which are essential for positive mental health.
The establishment of the youth committee within REACT has fostered a culture of discussion and feedback, enabling each member to voice their opinions and contribute to decision-making processes. This inclusive approach has not only empowered the young people but also demonstrated the impact of their collective actions on their communities.
The collaboration with the Spring Youth Group and the broader community has laid a solid foundation for future joint initiatives. By working together, REACT and Spring can continue to address common challenges, celebrate shared successes, and build a more united community.
“The Elevate programme has greatly helped to not only achieve our immediate goals, but has also helped to establish wider links and co-operation in the wider community which will be extremely beneficial to our organisation for years to come.”
