The Elevate Project has gone beyond empowering individuals, fostering a ripple effect that extends to the broader community. Through meaningful connections, advocacy, and sustainable initiatives, such as Nurturing Parenting Programme, One Day at a Time support group and Have Your Say Day this project has made a tangible difference in the lives of many, building a foundation for long-term community development.
One of the most significant impacts of the Elevate Project has been its ability to bring people together. Many participants have formed new friendships through our activities, reducing isolation and boosting social confidence. These new found relationships have extended beyond our organised events, as participants have taken the initiative to create their own group chats, ensuring continued engagement and support for one another. This sense of belonging has been transformative, particularly for individuals who previously felt disconnected from their community.
A crucial element of the Elevate Project has been empowering local residents to have a stronger voice in shaping community policies and services. Through our involvement in the Strathfoyle Community Safety Forum, we have facilitated opportunities for residents to actively contribute to discussions on local issues. Additionally, our MAS Project participants took part in a survey for the Women’s Health Strategy for Northern Ireland, ensuring their perspectives were heard in shaping healthcare initiatives. Furthermore, our staff attended the Primary Care Multi-Disciplinary Teams in GP Practices event, where they gained valuable insights into healthcare services, which they then shared with our service users. These actions have enhanced community engagement and awareness, reinforcing the importance of advocacy and participation.
The Elevate mentoring had a significant impact on our project, enhancing our skills, awareness, and community connections. It boosted our confidence in community development, particularly in governance and leadership, helping us improve the decisions we make. For example, after reviewing our governance structures, our Mentor Aiden, advised that our newly structured board should gain a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities, ensuring our policies remained inclusive and community led. The mentoring process also increased our awareness and knowledge in equality, and advocacy, particularly in engaging supporting families of children with additional needs. This helped us shape our programs to better meet community needs.
The Elevate Project has successfully built capacity within both individuals and the community. By equipping participants with the confidence, skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for meaningful engagement, we have helped lay the groundwork for lasting change. As the project continues to inspire action and strengthen community ties, it stands as a powerful example of how collective effort can lead to sustained and meaningful progress.
“The Elevate Mentoring and Grants Programme has been a great experience for our participants, our organisation, and the wider community. It empowered individuals with new skills and confidence, strengthened our organisation’s ability to support the community. The impact will continue after the project ends. We would like to thank CDHN for supporting our organisation and the vital services we provide to our community. We hope to work with you again in the future.”
