Warrenpoint Women was set up in April 2022, to address isolation and loneliness and encourage women to connect with the community. It is aimed at women of all ages, most of our members are over 50 however we have activities and events for all ages and interests. Our group was established after an open meeting where over 70 women came out to show their interest and the need for a group and the numbers of members have continued to grow since then.
The Group's Elevate project began with a focus on internal development of the committee itself, recognizing the importance of a strong, cohesive committee to ensure the sustainability of the project. The Group organized several team-building activities designed to help members gain new skills, build confidence, and bond as a team. The activities included a pottery workshop, a cookery workshop and a canvas painting session. These hands-on experiences allowed the committee members to engage in a creative process, learn new techniques and discover hidden talents. The collaborative nature of the workshops fostered a sense of camaraderie and mutual support among the participants.
In addition to these team-building activities, the Group organized a special event to celebrate International Women’s Day. This event was a resounding success, with members enjoying a day of celebration, reflection, and empowerment. The International Women's Day event highlighted the strength and resilience of women, reinforcing the group's commitment to personal and communal growth.
A significant milestone for the Warrenpoint Women's Group was hosting an evening event that brought together other local women's groups. This was the first time many of these groups had the opportunity to meet and interact. The evening featured a speaker on health and well-being, providing valuable insights and fostering a discussion on important issues affecting women. The event was a platform for sharing ideas, experiences, and best practices, creating a network of support and collaboration among the groups. The success of this gathering demonstrated the power of unity and the potential for future joint initiatives.
Through these various activities and events, the Warrenpoint Women's Group has achieved its goal of empowering its committee members and fostering a strong, supportive community. The members have gained new skills, built confidence, and formed lasting connections. The group's efforts have not only benefited the individual members but also strengthened the broader community, creating a network of empowered women ready to support each other and drive positive change.
“Our group has found the Elevate Mentoring and Grants Programme invaluable to our project. We feel our committee and members are stronger because of it and it will benefit us going forward with future events.”
