The Antrim Community Fridge Walking for Health Group was established to promote physical activity, social connection, and mental well-being within the local community. By providing a welcoming and supportive space, the initiative encouraged individuals to engage in regular group walks, fostering better health, a stronger sense of belonging, and an appreciation for local green spaces.

The project specifically tackled challenges related to mental health, social isolation, and overall well-being. By creating a safe and inclusive environment, participants were encouraged to form meaningful social connections while improving their physical health. In addition to regular walks, members received first aid and heart start training, equipping them with essential skills to enhance both personal safety and community resilience.

The group primarily served older adults and individuals seeking health and social connections. Participants ranged in age, with the majority being 66+ years old, followed by those aged 51-65. This focus on older adults aligned with the project's broader mission to promote health and well-being within this demographic.

The Walking for Health Group successfully achieved its aim of enhancing both physical and mental well-being. Participants reported improved fitness, mood, and a deepened sense of community. The structured and supportive environment was particularly appreciated, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to engage in social interaction and outdoor activity which gave them a greater sense of purpose in their weekly live

The Antrim Community Fridge Walking for Health Group was created in direct response to community feedback. Volunteers from the community fridge trained as walk leaders, ensuring a participant-driven approach. This leadership model fostered a strong sense of ownership, allowing members to take an active role in sustaining the project long-term.

The Antrim Community Fridge Walking for Health Group has made a meaningful difference in the lives of its participants. By addressing social isolation, promoting physical activity, and fostering mental well-being, the initiative has strengthened the local community. With ongoing support and adaptability, this project has the potential to continue making a lasting impact for years to come and in terms of the wider community, the benefits have been an increase in community engagement and collaborative spirit fostered through the project.
