The Sir Hans Sloan Education & Visitor Centre is based in Killyleagh. Its core mission is to improve the prospects of the next generation of young people in Killyleagh and Shrigley and improve educational, employment, wellbeing and community outcomes for all people in the whole of the Ards and Down area, especially young people who face disadvantage. It aims to achieve this through informal learning opportunities which provide people with new experiences through running workshops and educating through displays, talks, and exhibitions in art, crafts and science.
As part of the Elevate programme, the Centre gained support to offer space and practical opportunities for disadvantaged young people to engage, connect and develop new skills for a sense of ownership in their local village.
